My name is Sylvia Sheehy, and my journey into natural health and complementary medicine began over four years ago. I trained with the Irish School of Herbal Medicine in Portlaoise (now Core College), where I completed the intensive Medical Master Herbalism programme. This comprehensive four-year qualification involved over 600 hours of supervised clinical training, alongside in-depth study of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and materia medica.

As a result, I am a fully registered and insured Medical Master Herbalist. I am registered with the IAMMH, the recognised governing body for Medical Master Herbalists in Ireland. Registration with a professional governing body is an important factor when choosing a herbalist, as it ensures the practitioner is appropriately trained, fully insured, and working in accordance with a strict code of ethics and professional standards.

Alongside herbal medicine, I am also a qualified Iridologist. Iridology is the study of the iris — the coloured part of the eye — which may reflect inherited tendencies from our family line, highlighting areas of strength as well as potential vulnerabilities. While iridology does not diagnose illness, it is a valuable assessment tool that supports health awareness, prevention, and highly personalised care.

In addition, I practise as a Vitalist Nutritionist. Vitalism recognises the body as a self-healing, self-regulating system, guided by an innate life force. With appropriate nutrition, lifestyle support, and natural remedies, this vital force can be strengthened to help restore balance and wellbeing.

At The Herbal Eye, I do not focus on labels or disease names. Instead, my approach centres on treating the whole person — mind, body, and emotional wellbeing — with the aim of addressing root causes and supporting the body’s natural capacity to heal.

I offer full herbal consultations, as well as stand-alone iridology sessions for those seeking greater insight into their health. I also provide consultations for children; please note that anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

If you hold a Health Plan 13 or Be Fit 3 policy, you may claim €35–€40 per visit, for up to seven visits per year. As a registered member of the IAMMH, consultations at The Herbal Eye qualify for this benefit.
